Lusaka, Zambia – March 2025
In a significant step toward strengthening healthcare in Zambia and the region, the Minister for Health, Dr. Elijah Muchima, met with the Clinical Officers Association of Zambia (COAZ) this afternoon. This follows COAZ’s detailed presentation on the Zambia Health System and the critical role of Clinical Officers in delivering essential healthcare services.
During the meeting, Dr. Muchima reaffirmed the government’s commitment under President Hakainde Hichilema to work closely with COAZ in enhancing healthcare services across the country. He acknowledged the vital contribution of Clinical Officers in bridging healthcare gaps, particularly in underserved areas, and pledged full support from the Ministry of Health to strengthen their role within the health system.
This development marks a major milestone in advancing the profession in Zambia and across the region. GACOPA fully supports such initiatives, as they foster regional collaboration, professional recognition, and integration within the broader healthcare landscape.

GACOPA remains committed to working with national associations, governments, and stakeholders to enhance the recognition and professional growth of Clinical Officers, Physician Associates, and their analogues worldwide.
👏🏽 Kudos to COAZ for this great achievement!
